Is Halo: The Master Chief Collection, Worth Playing ?

Mark me down as one of the 5 people in existence who was never into Halo on the original Xbox, it only didn’t interest me at the time, I was in the middle of my Star Wars the only phase, and seriously purchased almost no titles outside the franchise (sad I know), in my defence I was still a minor, and games were a birthday/Christmas affair.

In the early 2000s Star Wars games come out frequently enough to fill my gift quota when combined with my love of early 2000s Star Wars novels, so it is not as sad as it appears on first glance.

Just a bite, first one is free.

My first taste of Halo was Halo Wars, which I loved, the lore got me interested enough to buy Halo Wars 2 and then when I finally bought an Xbox One (as I said previously, I am a PC gamer at heart), Halo: The Master Chief Collection instantly went into my must playlist, but I must-play list backlogged to Timbuktu and back!

Well, that took a while.

Finally 8 months after deciding to play, I found a few hours to jump into Master Chiefs oversized green moon boots, and I was in love from the get-go, this will be my first Xbox game I complete in near 15 years, and it made me download every Halo game I can, and I intend to play through them all by summers end.

What is old is new, and what is new is old.

The Halo: The Master Chief Collection has managed to take timeless classics and give them just enough of a paint job that the beauty of the original game was enhanced by the graphical and game-play changes.

Too often remasters either don’t go far enough or replace so much of the core game-play experience and aesthetics that is becoming a new game, merely sharing the title and story elements of the original.

I see… people?

Halo: The Master Chief Collection actually has people playing it, yep that’s right, classic Halo titles that are older than the average Call of Duty player still has an active player base and functional matchmaking, and with the upcoming PC edition of Halo: The Master Chief Collection rumoured to support crossplay, we will be able to enjoy Classic Halo multiplayer for years to come!

Worth a Play?

Fans of the Competitive First Person Shooter and Narrative First Person Shooter genres will both get a lot of enjoyment from this title, also to lesser extent fans of narrative games, in general, may enjoy this stellar title.

Xbox Game Pass.

The Master Chief Collection, is part of Xbox Game Pass, an ever-growing catalogue of over 100 games that is a great way to try a whole smorgasbord of games, including day one access to all Microsoft first party titles, for just a few dollars a month.
