“Interstellar Rift is an open world Starship Simulator with an emphasis on ship construction and multi-player interaction. Players can explore and conquer the galaxy with their own custom-designed and constructed starship. Space is vast, but you won’t have to face it alone, other players will be able to join your crew, and help out, or build their own rival fleet and fight you across the galaxy.”
Interstellar Rift is five years old this July, and while the developers have continued to work on the game at a slow and steady pace, the amount of actual playable content in the game is marginal at best.
The groundwork is very much needed, but for a game to survive early access there needs to be a stream of content to keep players engaged alongside the solid foundation, as its stands, Interstellar Rift is a game that has never seen any sort of popularity with an all-time peak of 155, it’s struggling to keep any sort of activity within its tiny community (which now peaks around 40-50 players).
The concept is a good one, and the execution was solid, the problem is the lack of content, and the pace of updates means what little chance Interstellar Rift had ever to succeed dwindles by the day, I wish Interstellar Rift had a large financial backer like Epic Game Store/Humble Bundle, allowing the devs to keep the final product off the market until the content caught up with the gameplay systems they have painstakingly created.
Without major progress in content creation, 2020 may well be Interstellar Rift’s last chance to capture any sort of sustainable player base.
