"While Lies of P: Overture at its core is "more of the same", the original Lies of P was one of the best games of 2023 and getting to enjoy more of the same is in no way a bad thing."

Disclosure: Review Copy We received a complimentary copy of this game for review purposes, however our opinions are our own.

To avoid repeating myself, I will link you to our review of Lies of P, as most of what I could say about Lies of P: Overture would be rehashing what has already been written about the base game, instead this review will focus on those things which Overture has added to the game.

What is Lies of P: Overture?

Lies of P: Overture is a DLC that expands upon the original game by allowing players to witness key events leading up to the start of the original game, and can be accessed by first time players after completing the 9th chapter of the base game.

Alternatively for who already completed the original game and have started a new game+ run, it is available from chapter 5 by selecting and traveling to the Path of the Pilgrim Stargazer.

Is It Worth Playing If I Have Completed The Base Game?

Lies of P: Overture expands upon the base game in almost every area, by introducing new weapons, items, mechanics, and more.

Including:

  • 10 New Weapons.
  • 2 New Legion Arms.
  • A Brand New Story Set Before The Events Of The Original Game.
  • New Enemy Types.
  • New Bosses.

In addition a free update to the base game added new features such as a boss rush mode, which means there has never been a better time to return to Lies of P.

If you liked (or loved) the original, you will want to play Lies of P: Overture, as it is “more of the same” in all of the right ways.

Is It Worth Playing If I Haven’t Completed The Base Game?

Lies of P: Overture is absolutely worth playing for first time players, as it makes an already amazing title even better, and while the weapons, bosses and items are great, the best part about Lies of P: Overture as a new player is it expands upon one of the most unique and engaging narratives I have ever played.

Being able to witness events which play a huge role in the base game’s backstory adds a layer of depth and gravity to the overall narrative that I would have loved to have experienced as a new player.

Final Verdict.

As a huge fan of the Lies of P, I was thrilled to have been given he opportunity to review Lies of P: Overture, and it has for the most part lived up to my expectations, while a few of the bosses at launch were not as balanced as those found in the original game, for the most part these issues have either been addressed or are in the process of being addressed, and even at its “worst” it was very much worth playing for fans of the base game.

While Lies of P: Overture may not be the most innovative DLC I have ever played, it is a very well thought out iterative DLC, and while it very much feels like its a stop gap between the original game and what comes next, the steps the developers have taken have for the most part all been in the right direction, and for that reason I fully recommend it to fans of the original and the souls-like genre as a whole.

Is Lies of P: Overture Worth Playing in 2025?

We found Lies of P: Overture to be a great game, meaning it delivers a memorable experience with only minor imperfections that don't detract from the overall enjoyment of the game.
