"The main problem with Steel Seed is that it is a "slightly above average" title in a genre full of amazing games."

Disclosure: Review Copy We received a complimentary copy of this game for review purposes, however our opinions are our own.

I really wanted to like Steel Seed, as I like the genre, and honestly the concept was solid, however after playing the game, I must admit, it feels like a “cheap copy of better games” and while it is very well made, and is about all that you can reasonably expect a AA title from a small studio to be, it does not make me want to play it, rather it makes me want to go and play the games it drew inspiration from.

The traversal mechanics of Jedi Fallen Order, the aesthetics of Stellar Blade, and combat similar to Lies of P come together to make a decent but entirely forgettable title, that honestly has very little to offer anyone who has access to any of those titles.

While I am not saying that Steel Seed was made in response to Stellar Blade, it very much feels like the type of “wild west” game that became “popular” with indie developers before Red Dead Redemption 2 arrive don pc, a title made to fill a temporary niche in the market, that ultimately would be unable to compete on any platform where the original title existed.

We saw this with H1Z! on PS4 before the launch of Fortnite and PUBG, and we will likely see it again once Halo launches onto PS5, all but eradicating any advantage Splitgate 2 may have held on the platform.

When any title is made to mimic the success of another title, or even appears to have been created for that reason, it is unlikely to do well in the long term, and with titles such as Jedi Fallen Order/Survivor and Lies of P being available on all the same platforms that Steel Seed is, and Stellar Blade being available on both PC and PS5, I see no space on the market for Steel Seed, and going by how few people play it on Steam, it appears I am not the only one who feels this way.

Final Verdict.

Steel Seed is fairly priced, decently enjoyable, and ultimately offers acceptable value for money for what it has to offer, however with titles such as Lies of P, Jedi Fallen Order and Jedi Survivor often selling for much less during sales, I cannot recommend anyone purchase Steel Seed at full price, as it feels like the type of game that will end up being a staple of sales, with discounts reaching and quickly surpassing 50% off.

Is Steel Seed Worth Playing in 2025?

We found Steel Seed to be a good game, meaning it is likely to be enjoyable for most players, despite having a few areas that could be improved upon.
