Frequent Updates.

Idle Champions of the Forgotten Realms is continually updated with new content, concluding champions, missions, and even new campaigns.

In addition to frequent content updates, there is a special event almost every weekend, allowing players to earn extra rewards or progress a little bit faster.

Multiplayer Content.

In September 2021, Idle Champions of the Forgotten Realms added the Trials of Mount Tiamat mode, which supports asynchronous co-op for up to four players.

While It’s not multiplayer content in the traditional sense, it shows the developers are at least willing to dip their toes into the waters and could be a good example of things to come.

Community Relations:

Codename Entertainment Inc has nurtured a fantastic relationship with the Dungeons and Dragons community, with many popular content creators and their respective communities having a positive view of Idle Champions of the Forgotten Realms and, by extensions, Codename Entertainment Inc.

And this close relationship has been beneficial for both the long-term success of Idle Champions of the Forgotten Realms and the community, which has resulted in content creators being able to offer around two dozen unique Electrum Chest codes each week and several fan-favourite original characters such as Prudence (Jane Douglas, Outside Xbox) and Corazón de León (Andy Farrant, Outside Xbox) making it into the game and by extension Dungeons and Dragons canon.

The Offical Idle Champions subreddit is the best way to keep up to date with each week’s unique codes; with as many as 24 unique codes active at any given time, even the most casual player can easily acquire 50-100 chests every month by spending a few minutes each week redeeming codes.

Narrative Content:

While Idle Champions of the Forgotten Realms is certainly not a story-rich game, an overarching narrative ties together each mission and campaign and serves as a medium to introduce new characters and mechanics.

Is it unmissable narrative content? Not really, but it is nice to see characters interact with each other and comment on the world around them.

Time Gates:

Idle Champions of the Forgotten Realms allows players to each TimeGate pies by playing the game or participating in seasonal events; upon collecting 6 TimeGate pieces, players are given the option to unlock a series of challenges that allow them to unlock and gear out a previously obtainable, but no longer widely available character such as Prudence, Corazón de León, and Strix.

In addition, a free TimeGate will open once every three weeks, allowing players to earn three random champions by undertaking a series of (rather easy) challenges.

Positional Strategy:

Idle Champions of the Forgotten Realms is surprisingly deep for a free2play idle game. Each champion works best in a certain position and when paired with other heroes that offer complementary abilities.

This strategic depth has led to the creation of a small but thriving meta-build community, with players sharing tips, guides, and even entire rosters with the community.

DLC

Idle Champions of the Forgotten Realms has an almost obscene amount of DLC, with 64 separate DLC packages on Steam alone, totalling a whopping £597, not including repeat purchases such as treasure chests.

DLC packs aside, Idle Champions of the Forgotten Realms has one of the most egregious character systems I have ever seen, with characters retailing for as high as $49.99.

While most players will look at these characters and feel little temptation to empty their wallets, for players with obsessive-compulsive or compulsive shopping disorder, Idle Champions of the Forgotten Realms could quickly turn into not only an expensive but potentially ruinous affair.
