Game Overview.
Environmental Destruction.
Battlefield 4 handles environmental destruction better than just about any other game before it and since, with even Battlefield 2042 failing to capture the spectacle of a collapsing skyscraper or bursting a dam, flooding the map in the way that Battlefield 4 did.
While Battlefield 4 was not the first (nor the last) Battlefield title to allow for elemental destruction, when considering the limitations of 8th-generation hardware, what DICE could accomplish without the aid of powerful local or server-based resources is nothing short of miraculous.
Bad Launch.
At launch, Battlefield 4 was a buggy mess, and while DICE worked tirelessly to address the most pressing issues, over a year later, when Battlefield Hardline launched, Battlefield 4 was still a mess, widely regarded by the gaming community as one of the least optimised titles of all time.
This would only begin to change in earnest during Battlefield 4’s second year of life, with a series of updates vastly improving game performance, resulting in a wave of goodwill that continues today.
Because of these updates, Battlefield 4 enjoys the benefits of a small but active community on all platforms nine years after release, something that is relatively unheard of in the genre, with only a few first-person shooters able to maintain stable matchmaking for more than two years.
