"My main issue with Loot Tycoon is that it attempts to do too much, and ends up doing much of it poorly."

A Decent Concept, Poorly Executed.

While the concept of a shop management idle game combined with an action RPG is a good one, the way that Loot Tycoon implements these features results in gameplay that is essentially watching an automated character flail about with heavy particle effects, while facing off against waves of asset store mobs indefinitely, with even boss encounters consisting of little more than facing off with a larger, equally uninteresting character model.

Visuals And Combat

If the visuals were nice to look at or combat was engaging, I could see the appeal in Loot Tycoon’s admittedly basic implementations of an auto battler, however, it is very ugly, overly simplistic, and with the exception of blood, which flows in massive deep red puddles from basically everything, each map consists of a repeating floor texture and little else.

Shop Management

As for the shop management itself, again, there is not much to do. Items have a lot of stats, yes, but due to bad translation and unclear instructions, it very much becomes a numbers game without any real concept of which piece is actually better than another.

This problem exists mainly because items do not seem to scale correctly. I have had items that are 30, 40, 50, even 70 levels below my current item level that provide more damage, more stats, and more bonuses than items at my own level.

As a result, there is very little to do beyond going on adventures, selling all the items in their warehouse, and repeating until you grow too bored to continue. Honestly, after spending around 33 hours on Loot Tycoon for the sake of this review, thankfully most of it was while doing other things, I cannot help but feel my time with it was poorly spent, and if not for the fact I was multitasking, a near unethical waste of electricity.

No Real Challenge Or Stakes

I think I would prefer it much more if there were a 2D sprite-based shop management simulation with simulated runs, with added danger, such as a chance of death and injury, resulting in a loss of gear or resources.

During playthrough, which lasted approximately 160 separate adventures (runs) and a handful of challenge arenas, I think I died twice.

The first time was when I was attempting a challenge 10 levels above my character level while wearing Armor 10 levels below my correct item level, and the second time I do not even know how it happened, as I was AFK farming adventures while doing something else, and I came back to see my character had died, however restarting the run with more level appreciate gear, I completed it without issue, and for the rest of my time with the game, I did not even come close to using a health potion, let alone dying.

Final Verdict.

I did not enjoy my time with Loot Tycoon, It was not very fun, it was not very challenging, and honestly, it is not very good.

While the developers have tried to make changes to allow players to infinitely farm runs, which I feel would have made farming inventory management less repetitive and allows for AFK farming, ultimately it just feels like burning electricity for the sake of burning electricity.

And for that reason, I cannot recommend it at this time.

Is Loot Tycoon Worth Playing?

We found Loot Tycoon to be a mediocre game, meaning that while it has some redeeming qualities, it's held back by noticeable flaws that prevent it from being truly enjoyable.
